Haldimand Norfolk Housing

Board of Directors Application

Haldimand Norfolk Housing Corporation (HNHC) welcomes expressions of interest from community-minded residents who are interested in serving on our volunteer Board of Directors.

About the HNHC Board

The Board of Directors provides governance and strategic oversight for HNHC. Board members help guide the organization in fulfilling its mandate to provide and support safe, sustainable, and affordable housing in Haldimand and Norfolk Counties.

The Board is composed of eight directors, with equal representation from Haldimand County and Norfolk County. Each County Council appoints one of its Councillors to serve on the Board. The remaining six positions are community directors appointed by the HNHC Board: three residents of Haldimand County and three residents of Norfolk County.

Who Can Apply

Applicants for community director positions must reside in either Haldimand County or Norfolk County. Vacancies may be advertised for residents of a specific county to maintain equal representation.

HNHC values a range of professional, volunteer, community, and lived experience. Knowledge of board governance, finance, housing, property management, construction, strategic planning, community engagement, human resources, legal or risk matters, or related areas may be beneficial, but is not required in every applicant.

Board Member Commitment

Regular Board meetings are held at 5:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, except July and August.

Meetings are generally held in person at HNHC’s main office at 2-25 Kent Street North, Simcoe. Meetings may occasionally be held at other locations in Haldimand or Norfolk Counties.

When an in-person meeting cannot be held, a meeting may be conducted through Microsoft Teams. Board members should also have the ability to participate through Teams occasionally when circumstances prevent in-person attendance; however, regular in-person attendance is expected.

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend and participate actively in Board meetings;
  • Review Board reports and meeting materials in advance;
  • Participate in occasional committee meetings, training, or special meetings; and
  • Maintain the confidentiality of Board information.

Community directors are appointed for a five-year term and may be considered for reappointment when their term expires.

This is a volunteer position. Community directors do not receive remuneration for serving on the Board but may be reimbursed for approved expenses incurred while carrying out Board responsibilities, in accordance with HNHC policies.
